Draper's Expert Arborists

On the valley's south bench, Corner Canyon aims the wind and Suncrest adds the snow. We shape Draper's maturing landscapes to handle both.

Why Draper

Wind from the canyon, snow on the ridge.

Serving Draper through our Salt Lake City crew, with the same expert arborists, the same standards, and the same around the clock availability.

Draper anchors the valley's south end, where Corner Canyon funnels downslope wind across newer estate lots whose landscapes are just reaching maturity. Up on Suncrest, elevation adds a snow load the valley floor never sees, bending and snapping limbs that would be fine two thousand feet lower. Trees planted in the 1990s and 2000s are now big enough to matter, and big enough to fail.

Why an Expert Arborist Matters in Draper

Draper’s landscapes are at the most consequential age a tree can be. The maples, spruce, and honeylocusts planted when the estate lots went in are now twenty and thirty years old, big enough to shade a yard and big enough to hit a house, and the structural flaws they have carried since the nursery are reaching their last cheap chance at correction. Layer on Corner Canyon’s wind funnel and Suncrest’s snow load, and the south bench punishes exactly the defects, co-dominant stems, included bark, long unpruned limbs, that trained eyes catch and casual crews miss. What gets corrected this decade decides what fails in the next one.

Every estimate is conducted by an experienced arborist working to ANSI A300 industry standards. Where wind or snow risk raises a real question, we provide TRAQ qualified written assessments, and every job begins with a written plan and a current Certificate of Insurance before work starts on your property.

Draper’s Tree Challenges

The Corner Canyon wind funnel gives Draper its own version of the bench wind problem. Downslope winds accelerate out of the canyon and sweep the neighborhoods below it, and the maturing trees on those lots are now tall enough to catch the full force. Selective thinning that bleeds wind through the canopy, plus correction of weak unions before the fall season, keeps a maturing landscape standing through what the canyon sends.

Suncrest snow load is a problem most valley arborists never think about. At ridge elevation, heavy wet snow lands in October while trees hold leaves and again in April while they flower, loading limbs at their weakest moments. Trees up here need shorter lever arms, stronger scaffold structure, and species aware pruning. What survives fine at the valley floor snaps at elevation.

A maturing landscape’s structural window is closing across Draper’s 1990s and 2000s neighborhoods. Co-dominant stems, included bark, and crowded scaffolds are simple corrections in a twenty year old tree and major surgery in a forty year old one. Structural pruning now is the cheapest work these trees will ever need, and skipping it converts today’s small defects into tomorrow’s removals.

Draper FAQ

Local questions, local answers.

Don't see your question? Call us. Every call is answered by a human arborist, day or night.

Do you serve Draper?
Yes. The Certified Arborist Tree Service of Salt Lake City works throughout Draper and the south valley. Call for a free on-site estimate.
How fast can an arborist get to my property?
Most estimate visits across the valley happen within 24 hours, and storm emergencies get a crew on site the same day. We answer the phone around the clock, not a call center.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Draper?
On your own private property, generally no city permit is required. Park strip trees between the sidewalk and the street are city managed and need approval first. We confirm the rules for your exact address.
Which neighborhoods do you serve in Draper?
All of them, including Suncrest, South Mountain, the Corner Canyon bench, Steeplechase, and the historic center around Draper Park.
Does Suncrest's elevation change how my trees should be cared for?
Yes. Suncrest sits high enough that heavy wet snow arrives earlier and stays later, and wind exposure on the ridge is constant. That argues for stronger structural pruning, shorter lever arms on long limbs, and species that carry snow well. We prune Suncrest trees differently than the same species on the valley floor.
Are you insured for work in the valley?
Yes. Full general liability and workers' compensation on every crew member, and we can email a current Certificate of Insurance before work begins.
Why are my maple's leaves yellowing between the veins?
That pattern points to iron chlorosis, common in the valley's alkaline clay soil, and it shows up even when irrigation is running full tilt. It is an iron uptake problem, not a water problem, so more watering will not fix it. Targeted soil or trunk treatment corrects the imbalance and lets the canopy green back up.
