The Nations' Expert Arborists

The Nations is rebuilding block by block, and the old trees that survive construction need as much attention as the young ones going in. We handle both.

Why The Nations

Old survivors and brand new street trees.

Serving The Nations through our Nashville crew, with the same expert arborists, the same standards, and 24/7 storm availability.

The Nations has two canopies now. The first is the survivors, old hackberries and silver maples that watched the neighborhood go from working class blocks to infill rows, many with roots cut by new foundations and driveways. The second is the wave of young street trees planted with the new construction along Charlotte Avenue and the 51st Avenue strip, which only become good trees if someone prunes them for structure now.

Why an Expert Arborist Matters in The Nations

The Nations is two tree problems wearing one zip code. The old hackberries and silver maples that survived the teardown boom have had roots cut by foundations, driveways, and utility trenches, and construction root damage takes years to show, so a tree that looks fine at closing can be declining by the second summer. Reading those trees honestly, and knowing which survivors are worth keeping, takes an arborist who understands what happened underground.

The new canopy needs the opposite skill. Hundreds of young street trees went in with the new construction, and the next five years of pruning will decide whether they become assets or headaches. An experienced arborist conducts every estimate here, specs the work to ANSI A300 industry standards for the old trees and the young ones alike, and puts the plan in writing before anything is scheduled. A Certificate of Insurance is emailed before work begins.

The Nations’ Tree Challenges

Construction root damage is the defining tree problem in The Nations. Every teardown and tall skinny build cuts roots on the mature trees next door, and the injury surfaces two to five years later as thinning crowns and dead limbs on the cut side. If you bought new construction with an old tree in the yard, an assessment now beats an emergency call later.

Declining survivors need honest triage. Some of the old hackberries and maples along the Charlotte Avenue corridor can be stabilized with pruning and soil care, and some are past saving. The difference is structural, not cosmetic, and it takes a trained eye to make the call. We tell you which is which, in writing, and we do not sell removals that are not needed.

Young street trees without structural pruning are the neighborhood’s slow motion problem. Trees planted by builders rarely get formative pruning, so co-dominant leaders and crossing limbs get built into the future canopy of the 51st Avenue strip a decade before they fail. Structural pruning while the cuts are still small is the cheapest tree work there is, and the highest return.

The Nations FAQ

Local questions, local answers.

Don't see your question? Call us. Every call is answered by a human arborist, day or night.

Do you serve The Nations?
Yes. Our Nashville crew covers all of The Nations, from the Charlotte Avenue corridor to the 51st and Centennial strip. Call for a free on-site estimate.
How fast can you get a crew to The Nations?
Estimates are scheduled within 24 hours, and emergency crews respond same day, around the clock.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in The Nations?
Most private residential removals in Metro Nashville need no permit. Street trees planted with new construction and trees in the public right of way follow different rules, so we confirm the rules for your exact address before work begins.
Which neighborhoods do you serve in The Nations?
We work all of The Nations, including the 51st Avenue strip, Centennial Boulevard, the Charlotte Avenue corridor, Robertson Avenue, and everywhere in between.
How much does tree removal cost in The Nations?
Size, condition, and access drive the price. Removing a construction damaged silver maple squeezed between two new tall skinnies costs more than the same tree in an open yard. Estimates are free, written, and itemized.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Full general liability and workers' compensation on every crew member, with a Certificate of Insurance emailed before work begins.
Are Bradford pear trees a problem in The Nations?
Yes, especially on the older blocks and commercial strips. Bradford pears split apart at maturity by design flaw, usually in the first serious wind or ice event. If one shades your parking area or drive, plan its replacement on your schedule instead of waiting for the weather to force the issue.
