Berry Hill’s Tree Challenges

Trees against working buildings are the Berry Hill signature. Hackberries and oaks planted beside 1940s bungalows now tower over the studios and shops those houses became, resting limbs on rooflines, shading HVAC units, and threading roots along old foundations and sewer laterals. The work is surgical: negotiated clearance pruning, careful rigging over roofs that cannot take an impact, and honest advice about which tree is an asset and which is a tenant overstaying its lease.

Parking lot root zones slowly kill otherwise healthy trees across the commercial blocks. Pavement runs nearly to the trunk, soil underneath is compacted and hot, and water arrives in sheets or not at all. The decline shows up as tip dieback and thin crowns years before the tree fails. Where a tree matters to a property, root zone remediation and pavement setbacks buy real years; where it is too far gone, planned removal beats an unplanned one onto parked cars.

Volunteer hackberries on the lot lines grew up along fences between properties while everyone was busy making records. Now they are fifty feet tall, rooted in gravel and blocking gutters, with ownership split down the property line. We sort out what the tree is doing, what it threatens on both sides, and take it down clean in spaces where a truck barely fits.
