Silvis’s Tree Challenges

Red maple, honeylocust, and pin oak are the trees most common on Silvis’s close set lots, and emerald ash borer has already cleared out most of the unprotected ash trees in town. Oak wilt is the bigger long term concern, since it spreads through connected root systems, and adjoining small lots mean an infected oak in one yard can threaten the neighbor’s tree just as easily as its own.

Leaf scorch turns up in maples during hot, dry summer stretches, and an arborist can confirm whether drought or disease is behind it. Winter ice load is the recurring seasonal risk, and because Silvis homes sit close together, a failing limb here is more likely to land on a structure or a fence than open ground. Severe thunderstorms and derechos add sudden wind stress on top of that, which is why removals in tight lots get planned around access as carefully as they get planned around the tree itself.
