Milford’s Tree Challenges

Milford’s tree risk follows the regional pattern with a southern twist. Emerald ash borer has moved through the ash population here as it has across Worcester County, and dead or dying ash near a structure is a priority removal. Hemlock woolly adelgid is active in the area’s shaded, wooded lots, thinning canopies gradually enough that owners often miss it until a hemlock is already compromised. Ice and heavy wet snow load remain a leading cause of winter limb failure, particularly on codominant maples and lindens planted decades ago along residential streets. Milford also has some exposure to the tail end of hurricane season, when a weakened tropical system can still bring damaging wind gusts this far inland, a risk worth factoring into any late summer or early autumn pruning schedule.
