Bountiful runs up the Wasatch foothills more steeply than most of its Davis County neighbors, and that elevation change matters. Homes higher on the bench catch downslope canyon wind more directly, while the alkaline clay lower in town still locks up iron the way it does across the rest of the valley floor. Intense sun and wide swings between day and night temperatures add stress on top of that.
The training and experience of the arborist on site is what tells the difference between a tree stressed by wind exposure and one struggling with soil chemistry, since the fix for each is completely different. We produce written tree risk assessments using TRAQ methodology, accepted by HOAs, insurance carriers, and legal counsel, and carry full general liability and workers’ compensation insurance on every crew that works in Bountiful.
Bountiful’s higher elevation neighborhoods see canyon wind failure in dense conifers, particularly Colorado blue spruce planted close to a home for a windbreak that becomes a liability once its root plate loosens. Lower in town, honeylocust and Norway maple show iron chlorosis on the same alkaline clay found across Davis County.
Green ash and other older street trees warrant a proactive look for emerald ash borer, now established in Utah. Heavy wet snow after a late spring storm and occasional late frost round out the seasonal risk calendar here, both of which hit trees that were not pruned with the load in mind. An expert arborist reads the cause behind each of these before recommending a cut.
