Sewall’s Point’s Tree Challenges

Sabal and other susceptible palms throughout Sewall’s Point face the region’s usual lethal bronzing risk, compounded by the extra salt load from being surrounded by water on two sides. Ganoderma butt rot remains a quiet threat in the peninsula’s hardwoods, working at the base with no visible symptom until a conk appears, often after real structural strength is already gone. Ficus and other shallow rooted trees carry outsized risk here specifically because a peninsula lot rarely offers any windbreak, so a gust that would be partially blocked elsewhere hits these properties with less resistance.

Hurricanes remain the event that turns chronic stress into a downed tree, and Sewall’s Point’s position between two bodies of water means storm surge and wind can affect a property from directions a typical coastal lot never sees. Rugose spiraling whitefly adds ongoing stress to black olive and other shade trees, coating them in sooty mold across repeated seasons.
