Lewisville’s Tree Challenges

Emerald ash borer is established in Forsyth County, and green and white ash in Lewisville woods are at risk. Infested ash often dies back from the top, and dead ash wood turns brittle, which makes removal harder and riskier the longer it waits. Mature northern red and white oaks face oak decline and hypoxylon canker, particularly where drought and old root damage have added up over several seasons. For ash, treatment can protect a valuable tree if it starts before serious canopy loss.

Lower ground toward the Yadkin River can stay wet long after a storm, while ridges of red clay dry hard in late summer, and both extremes stress roots. Loblolly pines at either end are candidates for southern pine beetle attack. Flowering dogwoods in shaded yards may show powdery mildew by midsummer. Summer thunderstorms, ice storms, and heavy rain from a passing tropical system are what turn those stresses into failures.
