My bigleaf maple has a lot of moss and ferns on its branches, is that a problem?
Not by itself. Moss and licorice fern are common on healthy bigleaf maples in our climate. What we check for instead is included bark at major branch unions and any fungal conks at the base, which are better indicators of real structural risk.
