Southern pine beetle is the pest we watch closest in Dunwoody’s pine stands, since one infested loblolly can pass the beetle to its drought stressed neighbors within weeks. Willow oaks and water oaks under root stress from compacted clay run a real risk of oak decline and hypoxylon canker, a slow interior rot that shows almost no outward sign until the tree is already compromised. Dogwood anthracnose turns up in the shaded, slow draining understory found on many older Dunwoody lots.

Summer thunderstorms, remnant hurricanes, and the occasional ice storm set the seasonal rhythm here, which is why timing pruning and removal work around the calendar matters nearly as much as the cut itself.
